About Marcos Daniel Vicéns
He was born on August 18, 1996, in the city of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and raised in the Maná neighborhood in Corozal, P.R. He was nurtured at home by his parents, who encouraged his boundless creativity from an early age, motivating him to participate in art and drawing classes. At the age of 14, he enrolled in the School of Furniture Design and Manufacturing, Taller Escuela, in Carolina, P.R., directed by the renowned artist and designer Rene Delgado. There, Marcos Daniel immersed himself in the art of working with wood and the fundamentals of design. After completing six courses, he became an assistant at the workshop, a position he held until 2017.
In 2013, his artistic journey took a significant turn when he met Master Heriberto Nieves. Under his guidance, he began studying art and basic sculpture at the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina Campus. This experience revealed his passion for sculpture, leading him to be accepted into the School of Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico at the age of 17. During his time at the university, Marcos Daniel showcased his art in more than 10 collective exhibitions at the Lorenzo Homar exhibition hall in San Juan and obtained his own studio space, allowing him to make a living from art at an early age.
In the summer of 2019, Vicéns traveled to Paris, France, and Tenerife, Spain, to work in the workshops of Masters Asdrúbal Colmenares and Heriberto Nieves. This international exploration and experience enriched his knowledge and artistic proposal. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, he completed his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design with a minor concentration in Sculptures at the School of Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico.
In 2020, he developed his first urban sculpture project on the La Cambija Bridge in Bayamón, P.R., and by the end of that year, he was selected to create the main sculpture for the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina Campus, “El Jaguar,” which was installed and inaugurated in 2021 at the university’s entrance.
In 2022, he participated in the collective exhibition “VÓRTICE Heriberto Nieves and his school” at the exhibition hall of the UPR Carolina Art Gallery. In early 2023, he was awarded the Excellence in Arts Award by the Municipality of Vega Alta and its honorable mayor, María Vega. He also participated in the third edition of the Color Caribe art festival, presenting the large-scale sculpture “El Platanal.”
Currently, Vicéns is represented by Galería Petrus and continues to dedicate himself to his artistic proposal in his studio in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, leaving an indelible mark on the local and international art scene.
