About Bobby Cruz
Bobby Cruz López was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1984. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2008 from the School of Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico where he majored in painting. He was chosen in 2011 to appear in the book FRESCOS: 50 Puerto Rican artists under the age of 35 and in 2016 he was awarded the Lexus Scholarship for artists.
His work has been shown in fairs and galleries in San Juan, St Barths, Miami, New York, Chicago, Bogotá, Barranquilla, Ciudad de México, Buenos Aires, Punta del Este, Madrid and Barcelona. His work is part of the collection of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and of Luis Muñoz Marin International airport of San Juan.
His work encompasses drawings, painting, neon, sculptures and installations inspired in iconic places of quotidian life. Cruz’s work represents his own experiences inside the popular culture that surrounds him, he often uses reggaeton and salsa quotes, emojis, Caribbean slang and sayings and portrait, in his unique palette and style, restaurants, hotels, buildings, houses, bars, billiards, parks and sport venues mainly.
