The reason to create “La Parada de los Leones” (The Lions Parade) is to get in tune with Puerto Rico’s traditional urban art, specifically in the city of Ponce. The “Cow Parade” and “Kangaroo Carnival”, innovative exhibitions of worldwide success, inspired it. The Lion Parade consists of 15 lion sculptures intervened by 15 renowned local artists. Conceptualized with a more didactic philosophy this Project aims to promote art’s easy access and enjoyment to all members of the community. Each of the 15 lions is a personal interpretation of the art, tradition and folklore developed from each artist’s point of view. The lion sculptures can be found at Plaza de las Delicias as well as other important sites throughout the city of Ponce. The Project is a collaboration of Sylvia Villafane, Galeria Petrus director and Luis Feliciano from Yellow Media and sponsored by the city of Ponce.
