About Viviana del Mar
Visual Artist from Puerto Rico, passionate about painting, sculpture and installations. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Accounting and Marketing (2001). Her passion for the arts and quest to create new languages and forms of expression led her to refocus her career and explore new projects. The personal need to break methodologies, structures, and processes, guided Viviana through a personal transformation that took her to a space free of rules. She had to abandon her skepticism, and surrender to the unknown, where she discovered that at the end of that void there is a world of colors. According to Santiago Vega, art is a metaphysical, intuitive and purely spiritual process, where one must get lost entirely in order to find one’s self. She is passionate about the concept of games used as a metaphor to describe the labyrinths of life based on her particular view of the world. Viviana desires to cause an awakening in those who contemplate her work, given her belief that life is a game waiting for those that dare to throw the dice. In her technique, we can see how the figurative dances with the expressive. For her, art is a declaration of love, full of mysteries and secrets.
She has trained as an artist in various workshops of known artists such as Anaida Hernández, Betsy Padín, Cecile Molina, Erick Sánchez, Diana Dávila, and Charles Juhanz-Alvarado, exploring different techniques and forms of expression.
Her new proposal Vuela que te Vuela, 2015-2016, was developed under the tutelage of the artist Anaida Hernández. This series is composed of 100 acrylic paintings on canvas 12 “x12” that function as a whole and individually. These are accompanied by seven paintings 40 “x 40” each one.
She has been selected to participate in collectives from the Liga de Arte de San Juan and the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de PR; “Australopithecus”, Escuela de Artes Plásticas de PR, 2016; “Core Collective”, Liga de Arte de San Juan, PR, 2015, and “Christmas Collective”, Liga de Arte de San Juan, PR, 2014. She has also participated in auctions organised by the Weaving Dreams Foundation held at the Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de PR.
She currently studies at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, SJ, PR.
She currently lives and works in her studio in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
