About Carlos Santiago
Painter, born in Ponce and raised in a family where he was exposed since early childhood to different fine art expressions. Holds a B.A. from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico in Special Education with a Minor in painting. In 2002 the artist was awarded the very coveted Alfonso Arana Scholarship, which enabled him to study art for a whole year in Paris, France. During this period he attended Teophile Gautier Institution, trained in human anatomic drawing at the Taller de Bellas Artes de la Marie and with renowned artist Daniel Fisher, acting as well as his assistant. Likewise, he trained with internationally renowned Alfonso Arana. During this period he was part of the group Le Rat Su Champ, dedicated exclusively to live landscape painting. His expressionist work is characterized for a strong support for human resistance with a very strong position on the matter. His color palette is wittingly utilized to create a personal iconographic language to serve his spiritual purpose.
In his most recent works the artist addresses topics as complex as human survival and the relationship between men in relation to other live forms in his own dimension. The artist wonders what kind of problems will us humans face in an imaginary fight for our own survival.
Carlos Santiago has exhibited extensively locally and in the United States, Canada, France, Peru, among others. In 2004 he was part of la Casa UNESCO at Republica Dominicana. His work is part of some of the most important corporate and individual art collections. Currently he is part of the Generacion Reactiva movement represented by Galeria Petrus.
